Dolors Mirabent Muntaner

Guantánamo, 1926 – Sitges, 2014

She was a librarian and director of the Santiago Rusiñol library from 1951 until 1991.

Her enormous dedication to the library led her to become an active participant in the town’s cultural life, opening the library’s doors to countless social and cultural events (conferences, book presentations, talks, exhibitions…) but her main efforts were aimed at improving the library’s services and its catalogue; also, as she said, one of her priorities was the children’s space. Every afternoon, kids would go there to study and she “helped them with their homework, taught them to read and, once a week, read them stories”.

In 1995, in tribute to her work, one of the rooms in the library was named after her, Lolita Mirabent, as she was known by all. In 1989 she was honoured with the Trinitat Catasús award, a recognition from the local journalists, and in 2006 she received the Special Award at the Nit de Premis Sitges (Night of Sitges Awards), an award conferred by the Town Hall in recognition for her career achievements; that same year the library celebrated its 70th anniversary.

Dolors Mirabent Muntaner  (Guantanamo, 1926 – Sitges, 2014) was a librarian and director of the Santiago Rusiñol library from 1951 until her retirement, in 1991.

Dolors Mirabent studied Library Science at the Escola de Bibliotecàries de Barcelona while working as an assistant in her town's library, in Sitges. She was a hard-working and willful woman. Her enormous dedication to the library led her to become an active participant in the town's cultural life, opening the library's doors to countless social and cultural events (conferences, book presentations, talks, exhibitions…) but her main efforts were aimed at improving the library's services and its catalogue; also, as she said, one of her priorities was the children's space.
