The Sitges we know today, the town we have inherited, is the result of many converging realities, upon which men and women have built their own individual histories. Many of these histories have gone beyond the walls enclosing them and left their mark in our local reality, steeping into the town's skin and defining its identity. The towns, territories, countries and communities that have managed to keep their identity are a result of this rich and diverse heritage of individual contributions.
The mark left in Sitges by artists, writers, politicians, architects, businessmen or doctors, among many other professionals, has been key in the shaping of our town's open, dynamic, inspiring and visionary character. Some born in Sitges, others come from different parts of Catalunya, and still others from abroad, all of these protagonists of History –with a capital H– have found in our town their particular laboratory in which to create or launch their ideas to the world, permeating, fully and positively, our collective trajectory.
Many of the places where these men and women have carried out their creative or professional endeavors have gone unnoticed by subsequent generations of town people and visitors. For this reason, from the Sitges's Town Council for Culture, we have made it our purpose to make these places, which have been privileged settings, sometimes anonymous, of our town's history, known to all.
The project Memory of our Houses seeks to put on the map the buildings where many illustrious figures lived, worked or created and, at the same time, pay tribute to their notable contributions to many fields. We do it visibly and also in an educational manner, so we can all access these small bits of our history and they may be fully understood in all their value.

La memòria de les cases és un projecte que neix de la Regidoria de Cultura de l'Ajuntament de Sitges amb la voluntat de visualitzar els homes i les dones que han viscut o han passat temporades en diferents espais i cases de la vila. Una proposta més de senyalització cultural del paisatge urbà. Com en el seu moment es va fer amb el Parc escultòric.
Sara Makowski reflexiona sobre el "Pensar i habitar la ciutat" com una mostra "d'afectivitat, memòria i significat en l'espai urbà contemporani". I Sitges ha tingut i té la possibilitat de desenvolupar aquesta màxima de l'escriptora mexicana ja que el seu espai urbà ha estat compartit per generacions de persones que han deixat la seva empremta en la cultura tant local com internacional.
Per tal de visualitzar aquestes Veus que ompliren distints edificis de la vila en diferents temps de la nostra història, hem elaborat aquest projecte, pensat per a recuperar la "memòria" com "un dels fonaments de la civilització", com molt bé ha dit David Jou Mirabent.
La voluntat del projecte és donar a conèixer la presència de persones sitgetanes o forasteres que van ocupar les cases i els espais que proposem de visitar i "així arrencar de l'anonimat petits moments de memòria col·lectiva, d'afectivitat i de significats compartits".
Resseguint l'itinerari trobareu personalitats que reculen fins a l'edat mitjana, el noble cavaller Bernat de Fonollar o la família Sitges; i segueixen al llarg dels segles fins a l'actualitat amb les biografies de Ramon Planes, els artistes Cassagemas, Alfred Sisquella, Artur Carbonell, Lluïsa Vidal, Lola Anglada...
El criteri que s'ha seguit ha estat el de biografiar persones ja traspassades. En les cases i edificis on deixaren la seva petja hi trobareu una placa que els identifica i mitjançant un codi QR podreu obtenir més informació sobre la persona biografiada, i també s'ha editat un fullet de mà i la pàgina web http://www.sitges.cat/lamemoriadelescases/.
Esperem que aquesta nova proposta cultural contribueixi a ampliar el coneixement de la nostra història a través de l'ànima dels que hi visqueren.
